FYI, P/N BALM- 66- 122 is a turn signal stalk that will not cancel the turn signals on a 3rd gen Mazda6 with auto lights. You’ll want BAL N -66-122. Ask me how I know.

Go on then, how do you know

i’m guessing you found out the hard way

I’m guessing you spend your late nights pouring over mic rofi che of random parts, comparing minute detents and bumps, and reverse engineering their intent by cross-examining corresponding parts and parsing the complex relationships.

Don’t know why manufacturers are making it hard on themselves and still making auto headlights optional. Is adding a light resistor that much more costly than stocking different P/Ns?

I don’t even know if my ever self cancel, since I never use mine. I was thinking about removing my indicators for weight savings.

Why not just skip ahead and turn the headlights on anytime the car is on or in ‘Drive’? Most of the auto-
headlights aren’t sensitive
enough to turn themselves on in a rainstorm or at dawn/dusk so I’d rather just skip them altogether
.

The sum of 1¢ part, 10¢ labor, and $1 stocking cost,
or $300 option:
which is greater
?

You’re trying to complete your Mazda t urn signal stalk collection and got a duplicate?

IIRC, the only part of your turn signal system that’s installed from the factory is the lens. The bulbs don’t have any filaments and there’s no wiring. Removing any of that would just be cosmetic. BMW already took care of the weight savings on this one for you.

No it was actually really easy to order and install the wrong part. Dammit.

Bought, installed, and tested the wrong part. Now I’ll have two spare Mazda6 turn signal stalks laying around.

Bingo. I was only one short.

I always leave my headlights in auto, they’re actually really good about coming on when needed . Plus if they’re in auto and you put the wipers on, the head lights also come on. There is a little delay, but it’s not long at all. If I want to turn my headlights on, instead of taking it out of auto, I just put my fog lights on, because that also turns the lights on without having to take it out of auto. When the car turns off, the fog lights default back to off.

Makes a lot of sense, it already weights 3800 lbs, every little bit of weight savings helps.

Good to know that someone is thinking about it at the Mfr. level. I’ve seen some SRTs from Dodge/Chrysler that have the option to turn on headlights when you turn on the wipers but it’s up to the owner to hunt and find that option.
I can tell you first hand GM doesn’t play that way, nor does Ford.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised. I haven’t had enough seat time in a newer BMW to know if they changed, but i don’t know why they would.
The auto lights in my sister’s 2002 Explorer really aren’t too bad. It’s been too long to remember what they were like in my parents GMs.

I don't know... GM seems to just figure out it's easier. I mean this is the company that will save 5c on a stiffer spring in the ignition.

Yeah both my Pontiac and BMW fairly good with that.
Only annoying thing with my Pontiac is that there is no real “Off” position, you can momentarily turn it off but as soon as handbrake is down, lights are back in auto. Which is annoying because I can't leave my radio on, it's either non-stop chiming in ACC or headlights on in ON. And I can't put my handbrake up when wet because they might bind after a car wash.

On my Prius I just leave the switch in on all the time (although the auto headlights can be set up pretty sensitive). They shut off when the car’s off anyway...
